Slant Philosophy

Slant Philosophy: Mixture of Horizontal Philosophy and Vertical Philosophy.

Update: 1.0.1 on 2011-06-02

  1. Has limited bandwidth with success limited to the extent of its being horizontal.
  2. Has infinite scope to increase the bandwidth by becoming horizontal to approach perfection and success.
  3. Is like an anti-thesis of vertical philosophy in the area where it is horizontal and inline with vertical in other areas.
  4. Being mixtures, they have lot of varieties depending upon the ratios of horizontal and vertical.

Examples and criticism of Slant systems:

  1. GNU movement (http://www.gnu.org) is an inspiring and illustrative example of slant philosophy in action.
  2. Other than commercial companies, examples of Slant systems are Clubs/Communities/Associations which are started on horizontal concepts like equality/harmony etc. But they do have few people who run the show keeping the controls in the name of management. This limits realization of the ideal dreams.
  3. Other organizations are those which remain horizontal for some time. Till that time they remain cohesive and work very well. But the moment verticality creeps in through some weak people as ego, market pressure or government pressures etc., the innocent dream dies along with the organization and its original spirit. The body may remain but the good spirit vanishes.
  4. Most of these organizations die along or before the "great" (again this greatness is a vertical concept!) people who start them.
  5. There are others who are vertical due to their lack of vision being limited by tradition, dogma or pressures.
  6. Friends are welcome to contribute such analyses about other slant systems.
